The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is originally a Canadian dog. The Toller - as we usually call this breed - has been bred for hunting ducks. The hunter wanted his Toller to lure the ducks to the shore by playing with a little stick at the waterfront. Foxes have been known to hunt this way. One of them arouses the curiosity of the ducks and the other one is ready to catch them. After the shooting the Toller gets a new task: retrieving the duck.

What to expect from a Toller:

A Toller is gentle, barks little, is active outdoors, needs his daily exercise, and loves to work for his owner, is very intelligent, does not like to do the same thing over and over again and loves to learn new things. With the intelligence comes sensitivity. A Toller needs very much to be educated by voice. A stern voice is almost always enough to convince them something is not to be done. You can use a Toller for tracking, hunting, agility, flyball, doggy-dance and frisbee. Indoors the Toller is quiet.

Tollers really need their exercise and they look very sad when you do not give it to them.
